Ama Dablam

On April 14th Jim Broomhead and I stood on top of Ama Dablam after having climb the classic South West Ridge. We climbed from camp 2 to the summit and back in a single 36 hour push to avoid the dangerous bivy site of camp 3. We had the whole mountain to ourselves and felt very lucky about that since it is one of the most popluar mountains in Nepal. It was a fantastic route with a lot of varied terrain to cover.

Base Camp

Today we set up base camp at 4600 metres on Ama Dablam. The conditions lot good, so we can only hope for some good weather the next two weeks.

Namche Bazar

Today we are in Namche Bazar at an altitude of around 3300 metres.

We arrived in Lukla by plane yesterday and arranged four porters to help us with the gear to Ama Dablam base camp, which we will hopefully reach in a few days. They were laughing at us because we only wanted them to carry about 23 kilograms each. They are some really strong and cheerful guys, so the next few days will be a lot of fun.

Nepal

I have finally arrived in Nepal. I had half a day in Delhi and found it very kaotic. Kathmandu is also a bit of a mess, but everyone are very nice and smiling, so it is not as stressful.

Jim will arrive in a few days and until then I will buy food and fuel for your trip and then we can finally get into the Khumbu Valley were all the real action will take place!

Ready for Nepal

This weekend I went ice climbing with Martin Ploug in Kandersteg, Switzerland. It was a bit late in the season and everything was falling apart, but we managed a few good routes anyway.
